Deceased Name: SALVATORE A. TRIPI JR., LONGTIME DUNLOP WORKER
Salvatore A. Tripi Jr., 51, a longtime Dunlop Tire Corp. worker, died Tuesday (Oct. 7, 1997) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a brief illness.
Tripi, a resident of Lancaster, was a graduate of Kenmore West High School. He worked at Dunlop for 27 years, retiring as division chairman of Local 135, United Steelworkers of America.
He represented Dunlop in England and Japan, where he was trained in the use of state-of-the-art equipment.
After he retired, Tripi pursued his lifelong dream of a college education. After earning a two-year degree from Erie Community College, he graduated from Buffalo State College with a bachelor's degree in business in May.
Tripi was a member of the National Guard and the Army Reserve for 17 years.
He enjoyed classic cars and was a member of the Pontiac-Oakland Car Club.
Surviving are a son, Salvatore A. "Sam" III of Buffalo; and two daughters, Nicole Marie of Cheektowaga and Diana Marie of Lancaster.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga. Prayers preceding the Mass will be said beginning at 9:30 in Pacer Funeral Home, 2275 George Urban Blvd., Depew. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
