I worked with Gary for many years at the 107th Fighter Group, before he went to the Army Corp of Engineers. While the unit was deployed to Tuy Hoa Airbase, RVA, Gary narrowly survived the resulting explosion when the Viet Cong threw a satchel charge down the intake of the F-100 he was servicing one night. Both Gary and the jet eventually came back to us. Fair winds and RIP my friend......

My condolences to the family.  I was also in the 107th deployment to Viet Nam and remenber the night Gary was wonded.  The base was attacked 2:00 AM, new moon, July 17 1968.  The Viet Cong came down the flight line shooting rockets and throwing sachel charges which destroyed 7 aircraft.  Gary was on the work stand over the aircraft when the chage was thrown into it.  I was part of the imediate responce team that pushed to defend the west boundry of the base.  At the end of the fire fight 13 Viet  Cong were dead.  We live on through memories.  Rest in Peace Gary.
