Mr Starr, a highly regarded faculty member at Kenmore West Senior High was one of our Faculty Advisors for the graduating class of 1964. Well respected and much missed by family, students, and fellow faculty.

I remember Sam Starr vividly, as a mentor, teacher, friend and shining example of a man who lived his values by giving to others. For many years at Christmastime he would stand in for a worker who otherwise would have had to work that day, in order that the person could enjoy the holiday at home with family. My mother used to send me newspaper clippings (remember those?) annually because his gesture each year was considered so remarkable that it was covered in the press frequently. He was a deeply moral man and I will always miss him. We need more like him.

Mr. Starr and Miss Nalepa were outstanding advisors to our graduating class. They were always available to advise, criticize ( yes, criticize), and instruct our class in honoring our status in the school. Mr. Starr was a shining example to the community and will be sorely missed.

Jerry Starr used to join us for intramural basketball at night. He was a terror driving the lane.one of many great teachers at West.

I would not be the theatrical professor that I am today without the magnificent coaching of Mr. Starr!
How well I remember dying multiple times over in Mr. Starr's productions! And handing off a raisin to Kim Winship during a scene when we were supposed to shake hands. (Mutiple yuks! Correct me, Kim, if I'm not remembering correctly.)
Without theater, what is life?

Does anyone remember West High Story? That was one of Mr Star's most creative endeavors . He was hands down my favorite teacher. I still use his name as one of my password hints!

Jerry was not only a great teacher and advisor - he was a great humanitarian. Jerry and Steve Ash (math teacher) started the KenTon Sleep-Out where the staff and students sleep in cardboard refrigerator boxes the first weekend in February. They started the Sleep-Out at KW and it has since grown. They wanted the students (and staff) to be aware of the conditions in which the homeless of our area endure. I don't think that they realized the amount of money they would raise to be given to the shelters in Buffalo. Jerry and Elaine Starr became friends of mine while working at KW. They were caring, genuinely nice people and are sorely missed.

Mr Starr was an outstanding person and educator. He set a very high standard for all who came in contact with him. He and Miss Nalepa were the BEST class advisors anyone could ask for. Rest in peace Jerry. You have many who are still carrying on your legacy.
