In Memory

Allen Eddy

Allen Robin Eddy, Sr., 66, of Eagle River, AK went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 - surrounded by his loving family - at St. Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, AK.

Allen was born February 10, 1947 in Buffalo, NY to Dorothy May Eddy (Edwards) and Allen Adair Eddy. After graduating from Kenmore West High School in Kenmore, NY, Allen joined the US Air Force, for which he proudly served 26 years and retired as a Master Sergeant and Vietnam War Veteran in 1990. After retiring from active duty in the USAF, Allen worked as a computer operator for the Fairbanks North Star Borough from 1990-1996, and as a Civilian Contractor for Inuit Corporation on Elmendorf Air Force Base from 2001-2011.

Allen was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, a charter member of the Anchorage Elks, and a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 959.

A huge fan of sports, particularly baseball and football, Allen was President of North Pole Little League and active in American Legion Baseball from 1995-2001, and always looked forward to the start of the NFL season. Also a die-hard Republican, Allen enjoyed talking politics. Allen was known for being easy to talk to, for his kind heart, sensitive nature, and witty sense of humor.

Allen is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years Lora Eddy; daughters, Kimberly, Shawn (Paul), Robin (Dee), and sons Allen Jr. (Jamie) and Daniel (Stephanie); older brother James Eddy (Khalia), and grandchildren Danny, James, Brooklyn, Emily, Eden, Paul Jr., and Kimberly.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Ashok Rai, Dr. Terry Lester, the staff at St. Elias Specialty Hospital, and the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Alaska Regional Hospital for their exemplary care and support in Allen's final days.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at Riverside Community Church in Eagle River, AK at noon. An interment will be held at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Allen's name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (http://www.vfw.org/contribute/) or to the American Lung Association in Alaska (http://www.lung.org/associations/states/alaska/donate/).

Al was another member of our Tremaine Avenue "Crew" from Cub Scouts on to high school.  He was a good man.  Lots of good memories.

We became friends in Kindergarden and remained friends all the way through school.  We were in Cub Scouts together and on the same bowling teams for years.  Al was a good friend.  RIP Al.

Al was a great friend.  He introduced me to my husband (even if that marriage didn't work out long term!), and I to his first wife.    We had had some great times, including skipping school a couple of times to drive to Rochester.  Lots of laughs together!

Allen and I were high school sweethearts and married April 1965. We have a beautiful daughter Kimberly who we are both proud of. We are both sad with his passing.
